Nissan as an Engine Supplier for Komatsu Machinery
While best known as an automaker, Nissan has also played a key role in industrial engine manufacturing — particularly through its long-standing collaboration with Komatsu, a global leader in construction and mining equipment.
From the 1970s onward, Komatsu used Nissan diesel and gasoline engines in many of its compact machines, especially forklifts, mini excavators, and wheel loaders. Popular engine models included the TD27, H15, K21, and K25, known for their reliability, efficiency, and ease of maintenance.
Nissan engines were valued for their long service life (often exceeding 10,000 hours), compatibility with various Komatsu designs, and widespread parts availability.
Though Komatsu now develops more of its own engines, Nissan’s contribution helped power thousands of machines worldwide — a testament to the durability and versatility of its industrial powertrains.
